About To Have and To Heal

To Have and To Heal is a project run by Manchester Museum, in response to the Coronavirus pandemic, and uses objects from the Egyptian and Sudan collection to explore ways in which the pandemic and its associated ‘lockdown’ has affected us. The museum is working with third-sector organisations, schools and care homes, running online sessions to explore subjects such as bereavement, isolation and resilience.

I was commissioned by the museum to photograph 25 objects, ranging from a 3 cm-wide amulet through to a 161 cm-long coffin.

When we began photography, there were a few gaps on the list of objects that the project was going to feature, so curator Dr Campbell Price and I spent some time looking around the stores, discussing what might work well both thematically and photographically speaking.

You can read more about the project on The University of Manchester’s site and their associated Manchester Museum from Home page.
