The pay-what-you-can model

Pay-what-you-can is a model that allows you to choose how much money you pay for a service. It operates on the principle that people who are unable to pay the standard price should not be denied service. It is also based on the idea that people can pay more if they feel they would like to.

Of course, I don’t wish to devalue my skills and the help and support I can provide, but as someone who spent many years trying to survive on a low income, I know how horrible it can feel to not be able to advance myself or join in because I didn’t have enough spare cash. So, I would like to be able to pay it forward now and open one-to-one support up to those who might not otherwise be able to afford it.

If you can’t afford the lower option, please drop me a message. I have a small number of free places for those who really need some help, but can’t afford it.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yes, of course you can. As these mentoring sessions are done online, they’re available worldwide.

Yes, absolutely! Just drop me an email at julia@tetisheri.co.uk or via my contact page just before or after you buy, and we can make the necessary arrangements.

Yes. If you have a member of the team who’ll be photographing artefacts, galleries and events, and are just starting out with photography, then a five-hour booking would be best. If there’s just a single aspect of photography you need to train up on, then one or two hours may be fine.

If you need confirmation of having done the training for your personnel record, I can provide that.

Not as a matter of course. However, if you would like the session recorded, please let me know beforehand.

This kind of mentoring is best done on a video call because of the visual nature of photography.

However, if you have social anxiety or have any other reasons to feel awkward about being on camera, please let me know before our session so we can come up with some strategies to make things work for you.

I myself have ADHD, ASD and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, so I’m more than familiar with needing to make adjustments. I work on the basis of non-judgement, openness and acceptance for all, so please don’t feel awkward about sharing any worries you may have.

Generally speaking, these sessions are aimed at those using a camera, not a mobile phone. However, I can still help with a few things, such as improving your composition and doing some editing in apps on your phone. Please drop me a line first via my contact page or the form at the top of this page if you want help with mobile phone photography.

The exception is if you want to talk about using photography to nurture good mental health. That’s open to both camera- and mobile phone users.

It’s entirely up to you as to whether you do anything at all between sessions. However, making time to get practice in will help you massively.

I’m a self-taught photographer and in my experience, little and often is better than a big session once or twice a month. Ten minutes a day will keep things flowing.

If you’re a student or on a low income and you really need some help for a project or course, please drop me a line via my contact page or the form at the top of this page, and we can have a conversation to see how we could make things work.

No. These sessions are designed to be one-to-one. If you then want to pass what you’ve learnt on to your friends or colleagues, then that’s fine.

Yes, within reason. If you are unable to attend your session please let me know immediately and we can rebook. If it is less than 48 hours’ notice, with the exception of a genuine emergency, please be aware that you may forfeit your session.

Yes, if you request a refund within two weeks of purchase.

No. Unless the dog decides to make an appearance.

I can help you understand how to use your camera on manual settings and some photography theory, but I’m not a digital archivist, so I can’t help you with the specifics of archival imaging techniques. Sorry.

I can help you understand how to use your camera on manual settings and some photography theory, but not with the specifics of RTI and photogrammetry. I can, however, pass you on to someone who can.

I can help you get going with editing photos or negatives you’ve scanned; otherwise, sadly no, my specialism is with digital cameras. Sorry.

Unfortunately not. These are mentoring sessions, not a general ‘buy my time’ service.

This situation has never occurred, but if things don’t go as you expected, please let me know and I’ll see if I can make it right. If I can’t, then yes, you can have a refund.
