Anubis at the feet of Tasheriankh: fine-art print

£65.00£130.00

Description

Anubis was a psychopomp. Did you know that? A psychopomp is a deity or spirit who guides the souls of the dead to the afterlife. (And it’s also one of my favourite words.) That’s why Egyptian priests would wear a mask of Anubis whilst embalming. It was all part of the process of helping the deceased navigate their next journey.

The subject of this photo is of the coffin of Tasheriankh, a woman who lived in Akhmim in the early Ptolemaic period.

The coffin is one of the highlight pieces of Manchester Museum’s Golden Mummies of Egypt touring exhibition, so I spent two days photographing it, moving around to find different angles and picking out details in the coffin decorations.

The angle I chose here focusses on Tasheriankh’s feet, and the two beautiful recumbant Anubis statues facing each other, separated only by a column of hieroglyphs.

Whilst I could have got in closer on this part of the coffin, I chose to move back and get the entire length of the coffin, with the focus on just her feet to give it better context.

For me, personally, this photo is one of the highlights from my Golden Mummies work because it was an opportunity to be even more artistic and expressive than usual.

If you’re interested in finding out quite what an undertaking it was producing these photos, have a read of my article detailing how I photographed Tasheriankh, including how I actually went about dealing with the logistical problems of photographing a 2m-long coffin.

About your prints

Print details

Your photo will be printed on Fuji Crystal Archive Pearl paper.

It has a rich metallic base. The colours have a reflective, metallic and 3-dimensional feel which creates a distinctive pearl-like appearance. High mid-tones and highlights add luminosity and iridescence which lends this paper to artworks that want to accentuate warmth and depth of colour.

It’ll be printed using the c-type photographic method. Instead of using ink-jet printers, c-type prints are produced by exposing light-sensitive paper to LEDs or lasers, and then processed in a photographic developer much like traditional film prints in a darkroom.

Your photo will be printed and fulfilled by theprintspace, an award-winning fine-art print house favoured by professional artists and photographers alike.

The print has a narrow, white border. Not only does this make handling the print easier (no fingerprints!), it also means you can get it framed and/or mounted without losing the edges of the photo.

The print has a life expectancy of around 40 years in average daylight conditions; however, where and how you keep your print affects this.

  • Avoid hanging it in direct sunlight
  • Avoid subjecting it to temperature and humidity fluctuations, e.g. above a radiator, next to a drafty window, or on outer walls
  • If direct or bright sunlight is unavoidable, consider buying a frame with UV protective glass
  • If you get your print mounted/matted, ask for 100% cotton fibre, acid-free unbuffered mount boards

Your print will be produced and dispatched by theprintespace in 2–5 working days.

Delivery to the UK and EU usually takes a few days; other countries can take up 5–10 working days. Please bear in mind that these are average times, and delivery during busy periods could take longer.

Sustainability

Your print will be produced on an order-by-order basis, meaning resources are used only when needed.

theprintspace is a 100% end-to-end carbon-neutral business, using low carbon business practices and carbon offsetting via the Gold Standard and investing in renewable energy projects. This offsetting takes into account the emissions created during the delivery process.

The paper used for this print is produced by Fujifilm. Fuji’s production processes operates exclusively on wind energy; they also generate their own energy with five wind turbines and a large afterburner. They have pioneered a water purification plant with adjoining companies. Fujifilm adheres to regulation using the S class system that places restrictions on those substances that can and potentially do pose threats to the environment and public health. In recent years there has been an emphasis into the considerations of animal welfare by actively working to engineer different test methods whilst collaborating on research into skin sensitivity. The c-type process uses a precious metal, silver as it’s fundamental component to achieve high quality photographic prints. Silver is the raw material used to make the light sensitive emulsion that is suspended on the paper to generate these photographic prints. The silver residue and by-products of the photographic process are valuable raw materials so theprintspace extract them and recycle them after the prints have been made.

Returns policy

Please note that computer monitors and mobile devices can show colours in slightly different ways and intensities. If the colours in your print don’t look quite the same as how they look on your screen, this is why. However, if there’s an obvious problem with print quality – or your print arrives damaged – please let me know, along with some photos, so I can organise a replacement.

If delivery is significantly delayed (excluding longer delivery times during busy periods or times of strike action), please let me know so we can come up with a solution.

If, when you receive your print, you change your mind, you can return it within 14 days of delivery for a refund or store credit. Just drop me an email if this is the case. Please remember, however, that I am one person, and that I don’t have the financial cushion that large retailers do to be able to offset the cost of lots of returns. Thanks!
